Since early this morning, some Merchant Center accounts have shown an internal error against their product feeds. The fault is in Google's own systems, and the fix is still in progress.
What we are seeing
On the morning of 6 November 2026, our PPC team started to get calls and alerts from retailers about Google Merchant Center. On one shop's account the product file showed a single issue, "Internal error (9, 0)", against 1,004 products. Google's own advice next to it reads: "Please wait for an hour and resubmit your data feed. If this error persists after resubmission, please contact us."

Merchant Center itself has also been very slow. Pages took minutes to load, the data source screens often would not open at all, and some retailers saw error messages when they tried to check their accounts. Several shops also got Google emails about a drop in active items, or about product protection starting up.
We checked the feeds behind the affected accounts. They were fine. Product counts and stock levels were in line with normal, and nearly all items were still approved. This points to a fault inside Google's processing rather than a problem with any retailer's data.
Update: this is still ongoing. We have resubmitted the affected feeds and are now waiting for Google to clear the error. We will update this page when the accounts are processing normally again.
Google has seen this error before
This is not the first time "Internal Error #9" has hit Merchant Center. In July, the feed management company FeedOps reported that several accounts saw a sharp drop in active items because of the same error. They said it hit many merchants across different feed platforms, and traced it to changes inside Merchant Center itself. In the cases they looked at, reprocessing the feed restored normal processing.
What to do if your account shows the error
1. Don't rewrite your feed. If the only issue in your product file is "Internal error (9, 0)", your data is very likely fine. Changing titles, prices or attributes in a hurry can create real errors on top of Google's one.
2. Resubmit the feed once, then wait. Follow Google's own instruction: wait about an hour, then fetch or upload the feed again. Resubmitting over and over will not speed things up while Google is still fixing the fault.
3. Check whether product protection is on. Merchant Center has a product protection setting that keeps items in your account when a data source suddenly drops a large number of products. If you got an email saying product protection has started, that is the safety net doing its job. Your products stay live and your Shopping ads keep running.
4. Expect some stale prices and stock for a few hours. With product protection on, items stay live, but Google may not apply the latest updates until the feed processes again. If prices or stock change a lot during the day, keep an eye on your best sellers and promotions.
5. Keep notes for your Shopping reports. Write down when the error started and when it cleared. If Shopping traffic or sales dip today, that note will explain it when you look back at the month.
