Gemini arrives in cars: check what Google knows about your business

Local SEO briefing

Google is rolling out its Gemini assistant to cars globally, meaning the details your business holds on Google can now be read aloud to drivers before they arrive. Getting those details right has never mattered more.

What Google has announced

Google says in its own post, Get hands-free personalized help on the road with Gemini, that Gemini is available in cars globally. That covers Android Auto and cars with Google built in.

The newer part is a feature Google calls Personal Intelligence. The Verge reports that it lets Gemini in the car draw on your information across Google apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search. Google's own example is asking about your flight status while you drive.

New Google features often reach different countries and accounts at different times. UK businesses should treat this as something on its way to their customers. They should not assume every driver on their local roads already has the full set.

Why this matters for local firms

The local use is easy to see. A driver says "find me a garage that's open now" or "is there a cafe on the way?" Gemini can reach into Maps and Search for the answer. That answer rests on what Google already knows about each business: its Google Business Profile, opening hours, reviews and website.

If those details are wrong, out of date or contradict each other, a spoken answer can pass the mistake straight to a customer. A driver can't easily scroll down to check.

Google's AI Overviews in Search are a separate product. They also draw on what Google knows about businesses and websites. Sayu's study, "Most sites cited in UK AI Overviews miss Google's top ten", found Google showed an AI Overview on 69.4% of the 360 everyday UK searches it checked in October 2026. The pattern for local searches was very different. AI Overviews appeared on 9.5% of "near me" searches (7 of 74), against 97.1% of how-to and question searches (135 of 139).

These figures come from a single check of a fixed set of searches in one month. Google changes what it shows often, so they describe a level at that point, and results will differ by time and place.

The useful point for a local firm is that "near me" searches still lean heavily on the map listings and Business Profile details Google holds. Those same details are what an assistant in the car can draw on. Getting them right helps in Search, in Maps and in whatever the driver hears.

What this means for UK businesses

When someone asks Google's AI for a business nearby, the answer is only as good as the information Google holds. Keep your details accurate and consistent everywhere they appear. Then check what Google's AI actually says about you.

None of this needs new technology. It needs the basics done properly and checked regularly, because your listing and website are now feeding answers you may never see on screen.
