Claude Duet arrives in preview: UK firms should start with one task

AI agent launch

Anthropic's new AI agent is open by waitlist to US subscribers, giving UK firms time to plan a careful first trial — and the safest way in is one routine job with a person checking the results.

What Anthropic has launched

Anthropic has announced Claude Duet, an AI agent built for professionals and small business owners, as reported by The Verge. It is available as a standalone app on iOS and Android and through Claude on the web. It follows similar agents from Meta, called Muse, and from OpenAI, called Dots. Owners now have several options to consider. For now it is open only by waitlist to US Pro and Max subscribers, so UK firms can plan a first task while they wait.

Anthropic describes the launch as a "research preview". That label matters. A preview is an early release that the company is still testing and changing. Features may shift and results may vary, and a preview usually comes with fewer guarantees than a finished product. Treat it as something to explore. Wait before you hand it anything your business depends on.

Start small and keep a human check

Small firms do not need to adopt every new agent the week it launches. A steadier approach works better for most owners. Pick one routine, low-risk task. Trial the tool on it. Check every output yourself. Build confidence before you let it near anything a customer will see.

Good first tasks are internal and easy to verify. Examples include tidying meeting notes, drafting a first version of a supplier email, or sorting a list of tasks for the week. If the agent gets these wrong, you lose a few minutes and nothing reaches a customer. Quotes, complaints replies, pricing and anything with legal or financial weight should wait until you know how the tool behaves.

This also speaks to the worries many owners raise. The official ONS survey on AI use by UK firms points to expertise and trust as common concerns. A small, checked trial helps with both. You learn how the tool works by using it on something familiar, and you build trust from what you see rather than from a launch announcement.

AI already shapes how customers find businesses. Google showed an AI Overview on 69.4% of the 360 everyday UK searches checked in October 2026, according to Sayu's study. That is a snapshot of one month and one set of searches, and AI Overviews can change by query and by day. Still, it shows that AI tools are part of everyday search for UK customers. Learning how agents work on a small task now is time well spent.

What this means for UK businesses

  • Remember it is a preview. Claude Duet is still being tested, so expect changes and keep it away from critical work for now.
  • Choose one task. Pick a routine job that is easy to check and stays inside the business.
  • Check everything. Read each output before you use it. Note what it gets right and where it slips.
  • Protect customer data. Avoid pasting sensitive customer or financial details into any preview tool until you have read its terms.
  • Widen use slowly. Move to customer-facing work only once the tool has been reliable on simpler jobs.
